Thorne House Wins Del Mar Allowance on Opening Day
Del Mar, CA (July 20, 2024) – The curtain rose on the 85th opening day at Del Mar’s summer meeting and Harris Farms’ homebred Thorne House romped to victory in the 10th race on the card, a six and one-half furlong allowance over the fast main track.
Thorne House was not first out of the gate, but he quickly found his stride and established the rail position behind the leader. To his outside were two other challengers and they followed the leader through an opening quarter of 21.73. Leaving the rail run open, Thorne House moved to challenge that pacesetter going into the far turn. He put his head in front at the quarter-pole and jockey Tiago Pereira asked him to finish it. And finish it he did. He fired the afterburners and left the rest behind, scoring by more than six and one-half lengths in a final time stopping the clock in 1:15.41.
Thorne House races for the partnership of Harris Farms and Slugo Racing and he is trained by Dean Pederson. The 5-year-old gelding has four wins and four seconds in nine career starts and his bankroll stands at $263,614. A second generation Harris-bred, he was produced by the winning Thorn Song mare, Secret Thorn. His was sired by Clubhouse Ride.
