Chancery Way Wins Governor’s Cup for Second Consecutive Season
Sacramento, Ca (July 20, 2024) – Chancery Way, who was bred by Harris Farms and John Nicoletti, returned to the winner’s circle in the $66,250 Governors Cup for the second consecutive season at the California State Fair in Sacramento.
Completely in control from the break of the six furlong dash, Chancery Way led by a length down the backstretch and into the turn. She was asked for a bit more by jockey Assael Espinoza at the top of the stretch and the margin quickly grew to two lengths with a furlong to run. She was hand ridden to the wire and came home best in the end by three and one-quarter lengths.
Purchased for the bargain price of $6,500 at the CTBA 2020 Northern California Yearling Sale, Chancery Way has finished in the top three in fifteen of her sixteen career starts. She has earned $415,020 for her owners, Andy and Rob Smolich. Trained by Jamey R. Thomas, she is by Mr. Big and was produced by the winning War Chant mare, This Means War, who was also bred by Harris Farms.
Blevys Tiger’s, a daughter of Smiling Tiger, finished third and became her sire’s 30th black-type performer.
