Albany, CA (May 1, 2022) – Royal ‘n Rando, the 3-year-old son of California’s Leading Third Crop Sire, Tamarando, came rolling through the stretch to earn the first stakes victory for both he and his Grade 1-winning sire in the $75,000 Silky Sullivan Stakes going one mile over the firm turf course at Golden Gate Fields.
Royal ‘n Rando was off the pace for seven of the eight furlongs, (although not nearly as far as the race’s namesake famously was in his heyday). Coming wide into the stretch, he was asked to unleash his closing kick and came running. He got up in the final jump to earn the victory by a nose.
Tamarando, Royal ‘n Rando, and his dam Royal Grand Slam were all bred by Larry and Marianne Williams. The latest success of their breeding operation has now won four times this season and he takes his lifetime earnings to $106,568. He is trained by Steven Specht.
