Stanford Filly Two-for-Three After Santa Anita ALW Victory

Arcadia, CA (Oct. 11, 2024) – Stanford filly Nene Diamond is now two-for-three lifetime after she overcame some early trouble and a wide trip to win the 6th race at Santa Anita, a six furlong allowance over the firm turf course.

Nene Diamond got ruffled soon after the break, throwing her head and losing a few lengths. Jockey Juan Hernandez deftly got her refocused and the two settled three lengths off the pace down the backstretch. Going around the turn, the field appeared to challenge all at once. Nene Diamond had no choice but to go around and she was widest of all at the top of the stretch. Still full of run, she closed relentlessly, gaining the lead in the shadow of the wire to win by a half-length.

Nene Diamond races for Slugo Racing and she is trained by Francisco Garcia. Second in the only start she did not win, she has earned $88,400. Produced by the Discreet Cat mare, Joyce and Me, she was bred in California by Bar C Racing Stable, Inc.
