Stanford Fillies Double at The Great Race Place
Arcadia, CA (January 23, 2025) – The girls led the way for Stanford today, with a winning double at Santa Anita Park.
The 3-year-old filly Spotted Haze led things off with a wide open, six length victory on debut in the 6th race, a five and one-half furlong maiden race over the fast main track with a $50,000 claiming tag. Hitting the gate at the break, she was still speedy enough from post eight to quickly clear the field and she never looked back. Jockey Juan Hernandez kept her mind on business until the final eight and she coasted in easily by six lengths.
Campaigned by Jay and Julie Mangoolian, she is trained by Jeff Mullins. Bred by Robert Mitchell, she is out of the Eddington mare, Devilish Pro.
Two races later on the card, 5-year-old Nene Diamond took her career tally to five top-three finishes in six career starts with a frontrunning win going six furlongs in the $59, 780 allowance over the main. As with Spotted Haze, Nene Diamond had the company of jockey Juan Hernandez. They both had to work a little hard to ensure the victory, but she prevailed gamely by a length and three-quarters.
Bred by Bar C Racing Stables, Inc., Nene Diamond was produced by the winning Discreet Cat mare, Joyce and Me. Trained by Mike Puype, she has earned $132,820 for owner Slugo Racing.
