Smiling Tiger’s Baja Sur Washington Horse of the Year

Auburn, WA (February 22, 2020) – Baja Sur, the son of Smiling Tiger, was named horse of the year, champion sprinter and champion 3-year-old at the 2019 Washington Annual Awards Dinner and Horsemen Stimulus Auctions held on February 22 at Emerald Downs.

A champion at two last season, Baja Sur was a stakes winner in Washington and California during his 2019 campaign. He opened the year with back-to-back victories in the Auburn Stakes and the Coca-Cola Stakes at Emerald Downs. Second in the Harris Farms Stakes at Fresno Fair, he closed out his season with a win in the Oakland Stakes at Golden Gate Fields.

Baja Sur campaigns for John and Janene Maryanski and Gerald and Gail Schneider and he is trained by Blaine Wright. Bred by John Roche, he is out of the Supremo mare, Premo Copy. He has won or placed in six of his seven lifetime starts and he has earned $139,800.
