Smiling Tiger’s Baja Sur Named Washington Champion Older Horse and Sprinter

Auburn, WA (February 27, 2021) – Baja Sur, the son of Smiling Tiger, was named champion sprinter and champion older horse at the 2020 Washington Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association Awards, which were announced via a Zoom presentation on February 27.

This was the third consecutive season Baja Sur has earned championship honors. Named champion 2-year-old 2018, he was the state’s Horse of the Year, champion 3-year-old and sprinter in 2019. In 2020, he won the El Dorado Shooter Stakes and placed in the Grade 3 Green Flash Handicap and the Albany Stakes.

Bred by John Roche, he is out of the Supremo mare, Premo Copy. Baja Sur races for John and Janene Maryanski and Gerald Schneider and he is trained by Blaine Wright. He has won or placed in ten of his twelve lifetime starts and he has earned $227,520.
