Second Victory in Hastings Stakes for Ima Happy Cat

Auburn, WA (June 17, 2021) – Ima Happy Cat, who won the Hastings Stakes at Emerald Downs in 2019, returned to the winner’s circle in this season’s renewal of the six furlong stakes after a dominant frontrunning performance.

The 6-year-old daughter of Smiling Tiger flew out of the gate and established a three length lead through the opening quarter in 21.89. The half passed in 44.10 and her lead was five lengths at the five furlong marker of 56 flat. She was never seriously threatened in the final furlong and she crossed the line more than two lengths to the good in a swift 1:08.50.

A solid competitor since her 2-year-old season, Ima Happy Cat has won or placed in 18 of her 27 starts. She has earned for $274,962 for Sue and Tim Spooner and she is trained by Dan Markle. Bred by Dale Mahlum, she was produced by the Washington Champion Infernal McGoon. The daughter of Wekiva Springs produced a full sister to Ima Happy Cat this season.
