Perfectionistic Begins His Career Perfectly
Arcadia, CA (October 2, 2020) – Perfectionistic has a career record befitting of his name as he debuted a winner in the opener on the Santa Anita card, a five and one-half furlong maiden special weight over the firm turf course.
The 3-year-old Vronsky colt lined up with eight others chasing the winner’s share of the $57,000 purse. He broke well from the gate, which sits on the dirt portion of the course. He lost some ground when the field entered the turf course, but jockey Tyler Baze did not panic. He kept Perfectionistic in the clear on the outside down the backstretch. He asked him to close midway around the turn and Perfectionistic responded. Going well out into the five or six path coming off the turn, he drew closer with every stride. He put his head in front in the final strides to win by a neck in a very game effort. Final time was 1:02.98.
Perfectionistic was bred in California by Old English Rancho and he races for the partnership of The Elwood Johnston Trust, Ashley Hilvers, Mary Hilvers, and Ken Tevelde. Produced by the Poteen mare, Seasontoperfection, he is trained by Phil D’Amato.
