Carmen Miranda Stars at Santa Anita

Arcadia, CA (January 6, 2024) – Carmen Miranda, who was coming off a solid third in the $100,000 Betty Grable Stakes at Del Mar over the main track, started off her 5-year-old campaign with a game victory on the turf in 3rd race at Santa Anita, a six furlong allowance with a purse of $82,662.

The daughter of Stanford kept the pacesetter to her task down the backstretch and the two engaged it a tough battle from the final turn until inside the final furlong. Carmen Miranda was relentless. She gained the lead and held off a fresh challenge in the final yards to win by a hard-earned head.

The leading earner for her sire, the victory takes her lifetime bankroll to $320,964 for owner/breeder Nick Alexander. Trained by Phil D’Amato, the third generation Alexander homebred is out of the winning Tribal Rule mare, Miranda Rose.
