Burnin Turf Opens Big Cap Day with Victory

Arcadia, CA (March 5, 2022) – Burnin Turf is two-for-two in 2022. The 6-year-old son of Acclamation was completely overlooked by the bettors as he outran the even money favorite to win the opener on the Santa Anita Handicap Day card.

A full field of twelve lined-up for the $85,334 allowance going six and one-half furlongs down the hillside turf course. Sitting six lengths off the leaders for the first three furlongs, Burnin Turf drew closer along the inside as the crossover the main track loomed. With room along the rail, he dashed through and opened up a clear lead inside the final furlong. He won far more easily than the charted length and one-quarter would indicate.

Burning Turf has won or placed in eight of his eleven career starts and lifetime bankroll is fourteen dollars shy of $200,000 for Next Wave Racing LLC and The Ellwood Johnston Trust. Trained by Dan Blacker, he is out of the Vronsky mare, Grilltoperfection.
