Allowance Double for Tamarando at Golden Gate

Albany, CA (February 4, 2022) – Tamarando runners Momma Mocca and Royal ‘n Rando gave their sire an allowance double on the day at Golden Gate Fields.

Momma Mocca started things off in the 2nd race on the day going one mile over the all weather surface. She zipped away from her inside post and taking on the roll of pacesetter. She was challenged and headed with a furlong to run, but she gamely fought back, retook the lead, and opened back up to win by a length and one-half.

The 4-year-old filly was bred in California by Dave McGlothlin and she is out of the stakes-producing Olé mare Chi Chi Nette. She has won both her starts this season for the partnership of Cheryl Doyle, Reina E. Gonzales, Matthew Guitierrez, Mark A. Hanna, Maria Hanna, Ralph Martin, and Jordan Smith. She is trained by Jonathan Wong.

Royal ‘n Rando, who broke his maiden last time out, made his first start against winners a success in the 8th race, which also was contested at one mile over the all weather.

The 3-year-old gelding settled in fourth, tracking the pacesetters around the first turn and down the backstretch. He moved closer with a quarter-mile to run and was within a length of the leader nearing the final furlong. His closing kick carried him past that leader and onto a two length victory.

Royal ‘n Rando races as a second generation homebred for Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams. Out of their multiple stakes producing Grand Slam mare, Royal Grand Slam, he has won or placed in four of his five career starts. He is trained by Steven Specht.
