Om N Joy, the 3-year-old daughter of Om, confirmed her place as one of the best of her California-bred generation on both surfaces with her easy victory in the $152,000 Fleet Treat Stakes going seven furlongs over the fast main track at Del Mar.

A stakes winner on turf and dirt, Om N Joy enjoyed a trouble free trip under Hall of Fame rider Kent Desormeaux. Away sharply from post 3, she showed a nice bit of speed, but was wisely taken back off a rapid battle up front. Keeping her inside position down that backstretch and the turn. Gaining ground with every stride, she found no impediments and moved off the rail coming off the turn. She took over and sprinted away passing the eighth pole. Desormeaux wrapped up and the two cantered in to win by more than four lengths.

“It was like I was going 44 (mph),” declared Desormeaux. “She just continues to improve. She was an amazing appearance last time. I didn’t know she was that good, but she is. She is just that good. I’m the lucky pilot.”

Trainer Aggie Ordonez, who was earning her first stakes win at the seaside oval, said, “The break is a big deal for her. She’s broken poorly a couple of times. When she got out of the gate clean, I took a sigh of relief. Then you look at Kent (Desormeaux). He was so relaxed and patient and he made me comfortable. Then she just gobbled them up in the turn. I want to find the easiest spots for her and keep doing what we’re doing. But I’m dreaming, my dreams are getting bigger.”

Bred in California by Jerry and Connie Baker, who race the pride of their homebred program with Michael Golovko and Terrence J. Scanlon, Om N Joy has won or placed in eight of her eleven career starts and she has earned $311,140. She was produced by the winning Hard Spun mare, Margie’s Minute.
