Tamarando’s Wild Jewels Wins Gold Rush Stakes
Albany, CA (December 2, 2023) – Wild Jewels, the 2-year-old son of Tamarando, won his second stakes and third consecutive race, coming home best after a rather adventurous trip in the $75,450 Gold Rush Stakes going one mile over the all weather at Golden Gate Fields.
The comment lines in the race chart details include the terms bumped, keen, confronted, lost the lead, carried out, and prevailed. It was that kind of adventure with the most positive of outcomes. Slow at the break and anxious to overcome that, Wild Jewels was settled down by jockey Catalino Martinez, and the two maintained a stalking position in the first half of the race. The real running began going into the far turn. Challengers emerged from behind and stretch battle set-up. Wild Jewels was headed and pushed out by the eventual runner-up, but he gamely prevailed to win by a half-length.
The homebred of Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams is trained by Steve Specht. He is out of the winning Distorted Humor mare, Ribbon of Jewels.
