Del Mar, CA (August 30, 2017)-Dare to Dream Stable’s Spiced Perfection, unraced since breaking her maiden on opening day, July 19, of Del Mar’s summer season, wore down odds-on favored Show It N Moe It in the upper stretch and then held off the challenge of Family Girl to score an upset victory in Wednesday’s $100,000 Generous Portion Stakes for California-bred two-year-old fillies.
With Joe Talamo in the saddle, Spiced Perfection won by two lengths in 1:11.38 for the six furlongs. Family Girl, piloted by Kent Desormeaux, was six and one-quarter lengths ahead of 1-2 favored Show It N Moe It, the winner of the C.T.B.A. Stakes this summer. Withdrawn from the race were Hold That Smile, Sharona Sunset, One Fast Broad, Clean Living and It’s About Alex.
Rider Joe Talamo: From the half-mile pole home, I was smiling. The way she’s been getting over this track in the morning is just amazing. As good as any horse here. She ran today like she’s been working – relaxed, then finishing with a flourish. She was a winner today.
Spiced Perfection, a daughter of Smiling Tiger trained by Brian Koriner, went to the gate at 7-1 and paid $17.20, $5.80 and $3 while earning first money of $57,000, increasing her earnings to $110,280. Family Girl returned $4.80 and $2.20, and Show It N Moe It paid $2.10 to show.
