Smiling Tiger Son Magic Tiger Wins Gold Cup

Winnipeg, MB (September 19, 2023) – The penultimate card of the season at Assiniboia Downs featured the $50,750 Gold Cup going a mile an one-eighth. Continuing the finest season of his career, Smiling Tiger‘s son, Magic Tiger, capped off his summer in Winnipeg with his third stakes victory since his arrival at the Canadian oval.

A field of eight lined-up with Magic Tiger right in the middle in post four. Rating wide out near the rear of the field for the first six furlongs, he gathered momentum going into the final turn. He caught the leaders and drew away nearing the wire to win by one length.

The 5-year-old gelding has five victories in 2023 and a dozen over his career. He races for Wind Dancer Stable and Bill Meikle and he is trained by Wendy Anderson. Bred in California by Robert Heinz and Michelle Machado, he is out of the winning Lucky Pulpit mare, Funny Gal.
