Slugo Racing Buys $190k Smiling Tiger Colt

by Joe Nevills
The first crop of Smiling Tiger was well-received during the Barretts August select yearling sale, and that good will carried into the auction company’s fall sale, with Slugo Racing making a $190,000 colt the new sale-topper and the first offering to crack six figures.

The chestnut colt is out of the Grade 3-placed stakes-winning Williamstown mare Erica’s Smile, whose six foals to race are all winners, including stakes-placed Derivative and stakes producer Sheriffa. His extended family includes Grade 3 winners Purely Cozzene and Quality Rocks.

Premier Thoroughbreds bred the colt in California, and stands Smiling Tiger at Harris Farms. Smiling Tigeer stood for an advertised fee of $4,000 during the 2016 breeding season.

Woodbridge Farm consigned the colt as agent.

Slugo Racing is the nom de course for Southern California-based owner Steve Gasparelli, who drives and owns Top Alcohol Funny Cars on drag racing’s National Hot Rod Association circuit.
