Sharp Ride Dashes To Debut Victory at Santa Anita

Arcadia, CA (May 26, 2023) – Adventurous trips and racing debuts often don’t go together, but Harris Farms’ homebred Sharp Ride found the winning formula in the 7th race at Santa Anita, a maiden special weight going five furlongs over the fast main track.

The field of ten was away evenly, but soon the bumping began. Many firsters would have quit right then and there, not Sharp Ride. Moved over to the rail for a clear run after the trouble, jockey Abel Castillo let her find her best stride before they began to get the lost lengths back. She ran a great turn to catch the pack, but the leader was alone with a four-length advantage. Sharp Ride kept closing, moving off the rail as the leader drifted left inside the final furlong. Keeping her momentum, she galloped past the leader and opened up to win by a length and one-half.

Sharp Ride races for Harris Farms in partnership with Slugo Racing and she is trained by Dean Pederson. A second generation homebred, she is by Clubhouse Ride, out of the winning Thorn Song mare, Secret Thorn. She is a full sister to current 4-year-old, Thorne House, who has finished first or second in six of his seven starts and has earned $190,034.
