Del Mar, CA (July 24, 2020) – Preaching Trainer, our Harris Farms’ homebred, gamely overcame more trouble than a horse needs sprinting five furlongs to win the 7th race at Del Mar, a allowance over the firm turf course.
Breaking from post eleven, the 4-year-old son of Lucky Pulpit maintained a midpack position down the backstretch. Approaching the turn, jockey Umberto Rispoli had to check Preaching Trainer hard (sitting down in the saddle hard) when an inside horse came out. That would usually be it for most horses, but not Preaching Trainer. Losing position and some ground, he began to rally, but was force out further than the chart call of five wide around the turn and into stretch. He kept closing and after changing leads in the final furlong, he turned in a sub-twelve second final eighth to earn a hard fought half-length victory.
Trained by Carla Gaines, Preaching Trainer has won or placed in six of this eight career starts and he has earned $98,622. He was produced by the multiple stakes winning Citidancer mare, Debbie Sue.
