Harris Homebred Wink and a Grin Roars to Victory at Santa Anita

Arcadia, CA (May 2, 2025) – Harris Farms’ homebred Wink and a Grin, who broke her maiden last time out in her second start, faced winners for the first time in the feature race on the Friday card. The 3-year-old Smiling Tiger filly handled the move-up in class like a pro, as she roared to victory going one mile over the firm turf course.

Allowed to settle by jockey Hector Berrios, Wink and a Grin galloped along near the rear of the pack while others duked it out up front. She closed in around the final turn, but there were no seams in which to run through. Berrios patiently waited, but when the only path to victory became clear, the moved outside and he asked her to close. She pinned her ears and stuck out her nose, and with eye-catching determination, she flew by the leaders late to win going away by three-quarters of a length.

Style Award is trained by Carla Gaines. She is out of the Acclamation mare, Style Award, and from the family of the Grade-1 winning California-bred Champion, Fabulous Notion.
