Harris Farms Horses Prevalent at Cal Cup Saturday

Race 3 is the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint at 5 ½ furlongs for a purse of $150,000. A field of seven horses are entered with three of those horses sired by horse that stood or are standing at Harris Farms. Both Apache Princess and Stealthediamonds were sired by Unusual Heat and Lakerball was sired by Lakerville who is by Unusual Heat. Unusual Heat dominated California sire standings as a stallion where he stood at Harris Farms.
Race 5 is the California Cup Sprint at 6 furlongs on the dirt for $150,000 purse. A field of seven is entered with Harris Farms bred Fashionably Fast set as the morning line favorite who is seeking his 5th win in a row.
Interestingly, Fashionably Fast’s main competition in this races are horses sired by Stallions that stand at Harris Farms. Baja Sur is by Smiling Tiger and ran second to Fashionably Fast at the Big Fresno Fair in the Harris Farms Stakes. Smiling Tiger stands at Harris Farms. Trainer Bob Baffert sends out Heck Yeah who is by Acclamation who also stands at Harris Farms. Fashionably Fast is by Lucky Pulpit who also sired the great California Chrome who started his Kentucky Derby trail in 2014 by winning the Cal Cup Derby. Lucky Pulpit also stood at Harris Farms.
Race 8 is the California Cup Oaks at a mile on the turf and a purse of $200,000. This full field of 12 fillies also has several with ties to Harris Farms. Almost A Factor 6-1 morning line was bred by Harris Farms and is owned by Harris Farms and Gary Parker. Smiling Shirlee is by Smiling Tiger and was bred by Premier Thoroughbreds. Warriors Moon is by Jeranimo was bred and owned by Wade Jacobsen and is 6-1 on the morning line.
