Harris Farms Exacta in Del Mar Maiden Special Weight

Del Mar, CA (September 4, 2020) – It was a Harris Farms’ connected exacta in the 2nd race at Del Mar as our homebred Coalinga Road got the better of Count Alexei (Vronsky) in the five furlong maiden special weight dash over the firm seaside turf course.

Count Alexei caught a flyer out of the gate and set off on a clear trip on the pace. Coalinga Road chased in second down the backstretch and around the turn. The leaders was a tough foe through the stretch, but Coalinga Road wore him down in the late stages, taking the lead inside the final sixteenth and going on to win by three-quarters of a length.

Coalinga Road is a California-bred 3-year-old gelding by Quality Road, out of the stakes-placed Johannesburg mare, Coco Ecolo. He is trained by Carla Gaines.
