Trainer Jeff Bonde paid $130,000 for a Smiling Tiger filly at Tuesday’s Barretts Select Yearling Sale, the most expensive hip among the 76-horse sale.
Bonde was joined in the acquisition with new client Jerome Russell of Lincoln, Neb. Bonde trained Smiling Tiger, whose oldest foals are yearlings. Smiling Tiger, 9, was a multiple stakes-winning millionaire earlier this decade.
The filly is out of Chanceofalifetime, by Pentelicus, the dam of the Northern California stakes winner Kelly’s Princess, and the stakes-placed runners Chulla Isabella, King City Kitty, and She’s So Vain.
