Unusual Heat Has Full Book for 2016

Unusual Heat, the six-time leading sire in California and California’s all time leading stallion in total progeny, turf and California-bred earnings, already has a full book for 2016 at a fee of $20,000.

The 25-year-old stallion by Nureyev out of the Glacial mare Rossard, stands at John Harris’ Harris Farms in Coalinga, Calif. The farm said it is accepting approved mares that will go a waiting list.

Unusual Heat set the all-time California record for progeny earnings in 2008 at more than $5.8 million and was again the California earnings champion from 2009-13, which is unprecedented in the modern era. In 2015 Unusual Heat achieved an unmatched ninth consecutive season of more than $3 million in progeny earnings.

He has sired one Eclipse Award winner—Acclamation, the champion older horse of 2011—and 14 California champions.

Unusual Heat made his mark in 2015 as a broodmare sire with six new stakes horses including grade I winners Masochistic and Spanish Queen. He also added the group-placed Albert Doc in Japan, along with 2-year-old stakes winner Sombree and 2-year-old grade III-placed Frank Conversation.

Unusual Heat, who has stood at Harris Farm for six years, has sired 11 graded stakes winners, 28 graded stakes runners, 50 stakes winners, and 141 earners of more than $100,000 from 510 starters.
