Third Win in 2022 for Smiling Tiger’s Funkenstein

Arcadia, CA (October 16, 2022) – Funkenstein, the 4-year-old son of Smiling Tiger, scored his third victory of 2022 in the 2nd race at Santa Anita, a $63,000 allowance going one mile over the fast main track.

The bay gelding drew the outside post and was widest off all around the first turn. In the second flight down the backstretch, he found himself between rivals around the final turn. Fanned out to the five path for the drive, he switched leads at the top of the stretch and overpowered the rest with his closing drive. He took over inside the final furlong and opened up to win by two and one-quarter lengths.

Funkenstein races for JKX Racing and he is trained by Craig Dollace. An earner of $141,420, he was bred by Tommy Huttons Dream Stable. He was produced by the winning Rockport Harbor mare, Sheaparoux.
