Smiling Tiger’s Upward Mobility Was Much The Best at Santa Anita
Arcadia, CA (May 13, 2023) – “How much the best was he?” Those words were fresh from Frank Mirahmadi’s lips, Smiling Tiger 3-year-old Upward Mobility passed under the wire to win the grassy 7th race after a rather bumpy six furlong trip.
The trouble began with a stumble step one out from the start, but there was no panic from jockey Ramon Vazquez. He let Upward Mobility find his best stride in the opening furlongs the $65,000 allowance. Once found, he got rolling to close the six length gap. Nearing the turn, an inside run presented and Vazquez said go. Full throttle at the top of the stretch a moving equine wall formed ahead forcing an abrupt course correction. Out to the five path and aiming for on open hole, he was noticeably bumped off balance in the final sixteenth. He didn’t let that knock the fight out of him. He drove through that hole and got up to win by a determined head. The performance was exactly as the race call described.
Upward Mobility has two win in five starts and earnings of $83,960 for owner/breeders J. Kirk and Judy Robison. Produced by the winning Monarchos mare, Allshewrote, he is trained by Peter Miller.
