Catholic Cowboy (Heatseeker), winless in 9 starts since taking the Claiming Crown Jewel in Dec. of 2014, back in winner’s circle today after wearing down Muntij in final strides to take the Old Hickory Starter Stakes for trainer Nick Zito. Now with five wins and $403,876 in earnings.

Catholic Cowboy appeared to be in big trouble when making his bid along the deep rail turning for home but reasserted himself when taken back outside by jockey Luis Saez. Muntiz, on the other hand, looked home free after coming wide to take control into the stretch only to bog down late when dropped to the rail for the final furlong. Catholic Cowboy paid $4.60.
