The first foal from her dam, she tried the local turf course in December finishing 4th. She came back in this one mile turf event to win by a neck in the last jump defeating a field of twelve. Hot Tempo defeated fillies sired by English Channel, Giant’s Causeway, Elusive Quality, Big Brown, Tiznow and Unbridled’s Song.
Owned by Macho Uno Racing and bred by Fred W. Hertrich III in Kentucky, the filly now has $27,190 in earnings from three lifetime starts.
Heatseeker, a nine-year-old by Giant’s Causeway out of the Defensive Play mare Rusty Back, stands at Harris Farms in Coalinga, California. In 2012 Heatseeker was California’s leading freshman sire and is approaching $600,000 in progeny earnings.
Heatseeker won seven times from 17 starts in four seasons of racing, capped by a win in the 2008 Santa Anita Handicap (G1) where he set a track record of 2:00.42 for 11/4 miles on Santa Anita’s Park’s synthetic surface. He also won two other graded stakes for his career.
