Arcadia, CA (April 27, 2018)-Bakersfield Sound (g, 4, Acclamation–Hotlantic {MSW, $174,511}, by Stormy Atlantic), a half to Long Hot Summer (Street Boss), MSW & GSP, $424,539; and to TDN Rising Star Pacific Heat (Unusual Heat), MSW, $381,185, got the job done at first asking at a generous 73-10. Debuting in a $55,725 Cal-bred maiden special one mile grass he stopped the clock in 1:35.05.

Ridden for pace by Drayden Van Dyke, the handsome dark bay bowled along through splits of :23.11 for the opening quarter and :46.74 to the half-mile. Still going great guns with ears pricked on the turn, the homebred was kicked further in front off the home corner and was never in danger, scoring by 3 3/4 lengths from favored Minister’s Glory (Ministers Wild Cat).

John Harris and Don Valpredo teamed to purchase this gelding’s MSW dam for $47,000 in foal to Street Boss at Keeneland November in 2011.

The in utero foal, the future Long Hot Summer, topped the 2014 Barretts May sale on a bid of $260,000 and fetched a similar amount at this year’s Keeneland January sale following an outstanding career at the races. The mare’s next produce was Pacific Heat, who became the dearest lot at the 2014 Barretts October yearling sale and earned her Rising Star with a towering debut score at Los Alamitos. The Peter Eurton-trained Pacific Heat remains in training and is up to five furlongs as she nears a return to the races.

Returned to Keeneland November in 2016, Hotlantic fetched $115,000 in foal to City Zip and produced a colt last year before dropping a colt from the first crop of California Chrome earlier this season. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $32,400. O/B-Harris Farms & Donald Valpredo (CA); T-Neil D Drysdale.
