Redatorre to Stand at Harris Farms
COALINGA, Calif. (Nov. 29, 2004) -- John Harris announced Monday that Redattore (Roi Normand-Political Intrigue, by Deputy Minister) would stand at Harris Farms for the 2005 breeding season.
Redattore won 15 of 32 lifetime starts and nearly $1.8 million, racing from 2 to 8. Trained by Richard Mandella in the U.S. after establishing himself as a Group I winner in his native Brazil, Redattore won two Grade I races in the U.S., the 1 1/8 mile Eddie Read Handicap at Del Mar and Shoemaker Breeders Cup Mile at Hollywood Park, both on the turf.
He won four Grade II stakes, including the San Antonio Handicap at 1-1/8 miles on the dirt at Santa Anita. He finished out his career in late 2003 with back-to-back Grade II wins in the Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park and the San Gabriel Handicap at Santa Anita. During his impressive career, he achieved Beyer ratings of 100 or more in 16 different races, nine with ratings over 105.
The stallion is by the leading sire in Brazil, the American bred Roi Normond, a son of Exclusive Native, who has consistently been a top sire in Brazil and is the sire of the American champion filly, Riboletta (BRZ). He is out of a strong female family, with Intriguing as his third dam, that has produced such top sires as Private Account, Poker, Mutakddim, Not For Love and Roar.
“All us at Harris Farms are delighted to get this outstanding race horse and promising sire to our farm,” said Harris. “He exemplifies the qualities I like in a sire. He won in his second start as a 2-year old, but was a durable horse that could excel at the middle distances on both turf and dirt.
He is a good-looking horse with a great personality, and was one of the favorite horses in the Mandella barn. He has solid names in his pedigree throughout, but is also an outcross to many good mares. We plan to breed some of our top mares to him this year and hope he can get off to a big start. He was bred to over 80 mares in Brazil, so will also have a Southern Hemisphere crop going for him and may continue to shuttle there."
Redatorre will enter stud in North America as the property of Dr. Luis Taunay and Harris Farms and will stand for the fee of $4,000 live foal, payable at foaling. Inquiries should be directed to John Harris at 559-884-2477 or Dave McGlothlin at 559-884-2859 or davemcglothlin@harrisfarms.com.
