Unusual Heatwave a Real Good Deal
DEL MAR, Calif. (Aug. 3, 2012) – Unusual Heatwave rallied through the stretch and pulled away to win Wednesday’s $200,000 Real Good Deal Stakes for Golden State Series eligible 3-year-olds at Del Mar.
Unusual Heatwave is by Unusual Heat, out of the Candi’s Gold mare Miss Alphie, was bred by Montecito Stables, is owned by Ellen and Peter Johnson and Teresa McWilliams and trained by Alexis Barba.
“The 6 ½ furlong races down the hill at Santa Anita can be considered more like a mile and this is more like a sprint,” said Barba, who won her first Del Mar stakes.
“But how can you pass up a $200,000 race? That’s the bottom line here.”
The Snow Chief Stakes winner has three wins in 12 starts, earnings of $400,392 and was coming off a second in the Jun 22 Tsunami Slew.
He ran the seven furlongs in 1:22.35 and won by three-quarters of a length at odds of 3-1. Rousing Sermon was second and Got Even was third.
