Tizbud 3-year-old Italian Boy Goes Wire-to-Wire in Stakes Debut
Auburn, WA (July 15, 2012). Even though the speedy Italian Boy had won his three previous races by a combined 20½-lengths, there was still the question of whether the talented son of Tizbud could carry his speed beyond six furlongs.
Italian Boy proved that he could route with a game head decision in his stakes debut, the $50,000 Seattle Slew Handicap at Emerald Downs.
Leading throughout the 1 1/16-mile co-feature, Italian Boy set fractions of :22 1/5, :45, 1:09 and 1:34 4/5 for a final time of 1:41 3/5.
A three-time winner since May 26 in three starts at the meet, Italian Boy is 4-1-1 in six lifetime starts for trainer Tim McCanna and owners Luigi DiPietro and Diane DiPietro.
Bred in Washington by DiPietro Thoroughbreds, Italian Boy is the fourth winner and first stakes winner produced from his dam Cordial Russian, an unraced daughter of Hennessy.
